The Publications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific has been published regularly since 1889, as part of the ASP's mission to advance the science of astronomy and disseminate astronomical information. This journal provides an outlet for astronomical results of a scientific nature and serves to keep readers in touch with current astronomical research. It contains refereed research and instrumentation papers, invited reviews, and dissertation summaries.

PASP is the technical journal of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific. It publishes refereed papers on astronomical research covering all wavelengths and distance scales as well as papers on the latest innovations in astronomical instrumentation and software. The PASP has been published continuously since 1889 (except for one issue which was lost in the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and had to be reprinted), and during that time has had only eight managing editors.
