The American Society of Mammalogists was founded in 1919 and is dedicated to promoting interest in mammals throughout the world through research, education, conservation, and communication among scientists and the general public. The Society accomplishes this through annual meetings, international conferences, committee activities, research and educational awards to students, and publication of scientific and nontechnical material, including the Journal of Mammalogy, Mammalian Species, and Special Publications. The Society also maintains a mammal image library that contains many exceptional photographs of common and rare mammals that can be purchased for general use.
