The Center for Chinese Language and Cultural Studies was officially established in 1991 within Stanford University's Department of Asian Languages (now known as East Asian Languages and Cultures) with the purpose to facilitate activities in the teaching of Chinese as a second language, organize workshops or conferences on various aspects of Chinese culture, and make possible other types of activities within the broad context of China exchange.
