Abstract

An intervention study was undertaken to evaluate the impact of an education program on the incidence of central line–associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI) in 2 intensive care units. There was a nonsignificant reduction in the incidence of CLABSI (odds ratio, 0.46 [95% confidence interval, 0.21–1.02]; \documentclass{aastex} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{bm} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{pifont} \usepackage{stmaryrd} \usepackage{textcomp} \usepackage{portland,xspace} \usepackage{amsmath,amsxtra} \usepackage[OT2,OT1]{fontenc} \newcommand\cyr{ \renewcommand\rmdefault{wncyr} \renewcommand\sfdefault{wncyss} \renewcommand\encodingdefault{OT2} \normalfont \selectfont} \DeclareTextFontCommand{\textcyr}{\cyr} \pagestyle{empty} \DeclareMathSizes{10}{9}{7}{6} \begin{document} \landscape $P=.04$ \end{document} ) despite a significant increase in knowledge of CLABSI prevention by the staff of both intensive care units after the education program.
