Awards Announcements 2009
Best Article Award
The policy board of the Journal of Consumer Research is pleased to announce the winner of the Best Article Award for 2009. The winner is “A Multiple Pathway Anchoring and Adjustment (MPAA) Model of Attitude Generation and Recruitment" by Americus Reed II and Joel B. Cohen. The policy board selected the winner of the Best Article Award based on nominations provided by the JCR Editorial Review Board members and their assessment of the articles appearing in 2006. Reed is the Whitney M. Young Jr. Associate Professor of Marketing at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Joel B. Cohen is the Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus at the University of Florida.
Robert Ferber Award
The Robert Ferber Award competition is held annually in honor of one of the founders and the second editor of the Journal of Consumer Research. The award is given to the best article appearing in the Journal of Consumer Research from the most recent volume based on a recent doctoral dissertation. This year's judges are pleased to announce the winner of the 32nd annual Robert Ferber Award: Juliano Laran, for his article “Behavioral Consistency and Inconsistency in the Resolution of Goal Conflict.” Laran is an assistant professor of marketing at the University of Miami. He completed his dissertation at the University of Florida under the guidance of Chris Janiszewski.
There were two Honorable Mention awards this year: Rosellina Ferraro for “The Power of Strangers: The Effect of Incidental Consumer‐Brand Encounters on Brand Choice” and Maura Scott for “The Effects of Reduced Food Size and Package Size on the Consumption Behavior of Restrained and Unrestrained Eaters.” Ferraro is an assistant professor of marketing at the University of Maryland. She earned her PhD from Duke University under the guidance of James Bettman and Tanya Chartrand. Scott is an assistant professor of marketing at the University of Kentucky. She earned her PhD from Arizona State University under the guidance of Stephen M. Nowlis.
The Ferber Award judges this year were Lauren Block, Baruch College; Robert Kozinets, York University; and Suresh Ramanathan, University of Chicago.
Outstanding Reviewer Awards
Eight individuals from the JCR Editorial Review Board are the recipients of Outstanding Reviewer Awards for 2008-2009.
