Abstract

This article examines the writings of the miner, inventor, and novelist, Pedro Castera. His works illustrate the daily life of the miners--their customs, dangers, and sacrifices. Castera's works constituted a strong argument for the improvement of the lives and working conditions of the miners. His novels, which were the first to treat the lives of miners, provide important historical information about mining in Mexico.
