According to recent molecular data, the Anomochloeae, Streptochaeteae, and Phareae represent the most basal lineages within the grass family. Two subfamilies, the Anomochlooideae and the Pharoideae, are resurrected and described here to accommodate these three tribes. The name Pharoideae is validated and amended from its previous circumscription.
