Abstract

Recent work on the taxonomy and biology of three species of membraniporine ectoprocts of the Chesapeake Bay area has necessitated changes in their nomenclature. Acanthodesia tenuis is now known as Membranipora tenuis, Membranipora membranacea must be considered to be as undescribed species of Membranipora, and Electra crustulenta has been found to be Conopeum tenuissimum. Recognition of these changes is particularly important in the case of Conopeum tenuissimum, a very common fouling species over large areas of Chesapeake Bay.
