Abstract

A historical account is given of the development of the concepts of entropy, communication theory and their relation to statistical information. There are many misunderstandings about the nature of information as often defined in statistical theory and an attempt is made to remove them. /// L'auteur rappèle brièvement l'histoire de l'idée d'entropie dans la théorie de la chaleur et trace sa connection avec les idées analogues dans la théorie de communication et celle d'"information". Il offre un commentaire critique sur l'idée d'information dans le sens restreint que l'on le trouve dans la théorie statistique.
