Abstract

A stochastic model of sand transport by wind and some related equilibrium conditions are presented. Maximum entropy estimation of the probability distribution of the velocity with which sand grains take off from the surface is considered. A parametric model of grain/bed collisions is given, and the parameters are estimated. The data are in both cases measurements of transport rates at a number of heights and wind speeds. Also a short review is given of papers where problems related to sand transport by wind are approached by statistical or probabilistic methods. /// On présente un modèle stochastique pour le mouvement du sable soumis à l'action du vent. La distribution de la vitesse initiale d'un grain de sable est estimée par la méthode du maximum d'entropie.
