A large collection of garden eels from Baja California, Mexico, was found to represent a new species of the genus Taenioconger Herre, T. canabus n. sp. The new species is described, incorporating in the description a variational study of meristic and morphometric characteristics. T. canabus is compared with the closely related species T. digueti Pellegrin. On the bases of this study, T. herrei Wade is considered a synonym of T. digueti Pellegrin. A key to the species of the genus Taenioconger is included.
