Abstract

A fifth species in the deep-sea melamphaid genus Poromitra is described from four specimens trawled by the USSR R/V Dmitry Mendeleev from off northeastern New Guinea. We analyzed morphological variation of a similar congener P. crassiceps, which is cosmopolitan and inhabits several major oceanic water masses.
