An analysis of the work carried out by fishermen, who are traditionally marked out as being different from other social groups on the grounds of their professional specialization, is essential to an understanding of their culture and is also scientifically significant with regard to the environmental, technological and social features involved. Based on the results of research carried out in a small town on the north coast of Sardinia the work focuses attention on the specificity of the territorial dynamics (identification of fishing areas, their location, mental reference maps, toponymy, etc.) characteristic of the fishermen's trade and their social interaction.
