Abstract

The author describes in detail his set of five variations based on the painting of 'The Last Supper' by Jacobo Carucci (Pontormo). The circumstances that caused him to paint them are mentioned, as are his views on the question of form and content in painting. Two Christian ideas, the reality of the God Christ and the immortality of the flesh, are under attack in his Pontormo variations.
