Matilda Guame's biography of Ruth Crawford Seeger makes an important contribution to our understanding of the work of one of the most influential American composers of the twentieth century. The book's strengths are its historical accuracy and meticulous detail. Its weaknesses are the writing style and the discussion of Crawford Seeger's music.
