Abstract

The calcium-activated adenosine triphosphatase activity of cultured single beating heart cells of the rat was localized and visualized by incubating the cells, after extraction in a mixture of glycerol and water, with adenosine triphosphate and calcium. The calcium phosphate, precipitated at the site of the enzyme reaction, was converted into a visible precipitate. The enzyme activity appeared in bands perpendicular to the myofibrils.
