Abstract

The influence of an intensive two-day orientation to college on freshman year voluntary persistence/withdrawal decisions was estimated within an explanatory causal model. The results suggest that the major influence of orientation on persistence is indirect, being transmitted through its positive effects on level of student social integration and commitment to the institution.
