Abstract

A survey of the funding and first employment of postgraduate students in the British Isles indicates the considerable influence of the SSRC on postgraduate work and the strong tendency for postgraduate students to remain at the university at which they graduated. Comparison with a previous survey suggests that there has been a marked reduction in the proportion of postgraduate students obtaining employment in universities and overseas.
