Diazoacetic ester adds to the α-face of (+)-car-3-ene giving epimeric tricyclic esters whose configurations have been identified. The corresponding alcohols and their acetates respectively undergo acid-catalysed and thermal rearrangement giving isomeric bicyclic dienes. From the acetates a p-menthadiene derivative is also obtained.
