Abstract

The theory of formations initiated by Carter and developed by Gaschütz for finite soluble groups does not apply to infinite soluble groups in general. In this paper it is shown that in a large class of infinite soluble groups there exist subgroups which are rather similar to the Carter-subgroups of the finite theory.
