Abstract

The non-coercive pursuit of world peace is a major drive of our time. What assumptions lie behind this drive? Is peace equally valued by all cultures and conceptions of life? Is it possible to achieve peace? These questions are investigated from an interpretive systemic perspective. Interpretive systemic thinking is holistic thinking aimed at uncovering the limits and conditions of possibility of any situation. It is critical thinking in the Kantian sense. Interpretive systemic thinking can help us gain a more comprehensive view of peace in the world system. The present paper purports to unfold some layers of this view.
