Abstract

The wood tracheids are macered in the sodium hydroxide and sodium sulfur solutions. The pulp obtained by this technique is examined in the scanning electron microscope. The results indicate significant differences in fibers micromorphology when there is an increase of the high percentage of reagent. These observations are confirmed by damage of the cellulosic microfibrils and deformation of the bordered pits.
