Abstract

Changes of six different leaf indexes, representing anatomical and ecophysiological features of Fagus sylvatica L. were studied. Two layers of the crown were taken into account: the upper layer (sun leaves) and the middle layer (shade leaves). A comparison between sun and shade leaves has checked that there is a modification in leaf surface, water content, degree of succulence and degree of sclerophylly. The variability of these indexes is due to the capacity of sun and shade leaves to adapt at different irradiances within the beech crown. On a étudié les variations de six différents paramètres foliaires représentant les aspects anatomiques et écophysiologiques de Fagus sylvatica L. On a considéré deux niveaux de la cime: haut niveau (feuilles de soleil) et niveau médian (feuilles d'ombre). La comparaison entre feuilles de soleil et feuilles d'ombre a montré la présence d'une variation dans la surface foliaire, la teneur en eau, le degré de succulence et le degré de sclérophyllie. La variabilité de ces paramètres dépend du conditionnement des feuilles dans les deux niveaux de la cime aux différents rayonnements à l'intérieur de la cime du hêtre.
