1. A one year study of the food of Rattus norvegicus in an area of sea wall, saltmarsh and mud flat is described. 2. Information about the food was obtained from traces of feeding and the analysis of droppings. 3. The principal food throughout the year was Spartina townsendii supplemented mainly by varying amounts of dicotyledonous plants, crustacea and insects.
