Multivariate Methods in Plant Ecology: III. Inverse Association-Analysis
Preview not available

Abstract

`Normal' association-analysis of qualitative ecological data, described in previous papers in this series, is a method of identifying major discontinuities between groups of quadrats by reference to the species, whose presence-or-absence records are correlated in all possible pairs. `Inverse' analysis similarly detects discontinuities between groups of species by reference to the correlations between quadrats. The method is exemplified by the analysis of two different communities, and in each case the results obtained by normal and inverse analyses are compared. Certain differences between the two forms of analysis are briefly discussed.
