The chemical composition of Cyperus papyrus L. from ten widely separated sites in Africa was found to vary greatly between sites, but the variation between different portions of a given plant was equally significant. A novel system of sampling was adopted, including all parts of the plant. Ranges for the mean composition are shown in Table 7.
