Abstract

The research in the Sociology of Education in Italy has to cope with some problems, partly specific, partly common to all Sociology. First of all, the general critique to sociological reductionism and to the total conditioning of man, leads to a revision of the educational system as merely reproductive and of the oversocialisation of man. In empiric research this leads to a wariness in interpretation and to an exploration of new techniques and models of elaboration. A second problem specifically concerns the Sociology of Education: empiric research is lagging in respect to theory in the analysis of pluralistic educational system and of permanent education. A last problem concerns the accumulation in research, which seems to be favoured by increased homogeneity in theoretic elaboration.
