Abstract

The five input-output tables used by the A. are composed of eleven sectors and concern the years 1950, 1953, 1959 1965, 1969. By means of some « input-output » relations and indicators, the A. verifies some characteristics of the Italian economic system. The most important ones are: a constancy of the Italian economic « structure » from the point of view of the typology of the sectors and of the triangularization of the matrices; the different behaviours of two group of sectors (chemical, engineering, metalworking, other manufacturing industries on one side, agriculture, mining, foodstuff, textile-clothing on the other); the presence of two separate periods in the structural evolution of the Italian economy, from 1950 to 1959 and from 1959 to 1969; the opening of the Italian economic structure, both from the side of exports and from the side of imported intermediate inputs.
