Based on two courses taught by the author at a maximum security prison in Illinois, this article focuses on the challenges of prison teaching at the college level. It discusses positive and negative aspects of inmate motivation for taking courses, particularly those of a legal nature. Attention is devoted to the inclination of inmates to seek legal advice from teachers and the enormous dangers of teachers complying. The final section discusses complex scheduling problems encountered by the author.
