Transformations and Sufficiency

Abstract

Barnard (1963) gave a definition of the sufficiency of T2 for θ2 in the absence of knowledge of θ1 using groups of transformations. A possible generalization of this is implicit in the method of obtaining fiducial distributions by sets of transformations described by Sprott (1963). The purpose of this paper is to examine sufficiency and transformations in more detail in the special cases relevant for fiducial distributions, and to examine the nature of possible groups of transformations.
