Each of Professor Goitein's numerous publications dealing with the Cairo Geniza is a major event from both an historical and linguistic point of view, and can only be properly appreciated when analyzed from both perspectives. The reviewer's remarks are limited to a linguistic analysis of portions of some of the document published by Professor Goitein.
