Abstract

Morag's arguments are untenable on several grounds: (1) Morag does not distinguish between Sefer YeẔira itself and Saʿadia Gaon's commentary on it. (2) Morag tacitly attributes Sefer Yeẕira to the time of Saʿadia Gaon, ignoring all the difficulties arising from such an attribution. (3) Morag ignores the Gaon's awareness of the relation of his contemporary linguistic situation to the linguistic lore of Sefer Yeẕira, as he ignores the Gaon's opinion about the time and place of Sefer Yeẕira. (4) Morag ignores most of my arguments. He does not even mention the comparison I drew between Greek grammarians and Sefer Yeẕira. This comparison is based on my linguistic thesis and proves it. (5) Morag's arguments about the names Sarah and Abraham are trivial and altogether irrelevant to my argument, which I based upon the discrepancy between the Masoretic text and the Septuagint. Morag does not address himself to this question, and does not even mention the Septuagint version.
