Abstract

(1) A new instrument is described for measuring the percentage transmission of photosynthetically active radiation within crop canopies. (2) The instrument is portable, easy to use and gives an immediate digital display of percentage transmission. (3) Percentage transmission measured with the instrument was similar to that determined with tube solarimeters. (4) Full details of the circuits are available from the authors.
