Data on morphological characters, geographical distribution, chromosome numbers, crossability between species, hybrid fertility, chromosome homology and inheritance of the interspecific differences of different species and hybrids in the genus Geum L. (Rosaceae) are presented and are used to trace the evolutionary history of the group studied. The results indicate that the genus Geum is a polyploid complex with many groups of species representing different evolutionary stages.
