The genus Neochthonius and its type species, Neochthonius stanfordianus Chamberlin, are redefined on the basis of the type and new specimens. Kewochthonius amplus Schuster is assigned to Neochthonius, and a new species, Neochthonius troglodytes, is described from a cave in Calaveras County, California.
