Abstract

Bible commentaries take extreme liberty in explaining difficult texts, thus taking חוזה and מחוז as belonging to one root, so, too, with מנהרה and נהרה. Therefore, when we judge Haskala writers on their deviations from alleged Biblical Hebrew, these deviations may have represented, in their view, purely Biblical Hebrew according to the commentator they followed on the specific verse in the Scriptures.
