Abstract

Resting its case on the Republic while taking also into account Laws and the Politicus, this study shows that the status of Plato's political constructions proves ambiguousOpposingn a moral to a political reading of the Republic one is led to the view that Plato combined his condemnation of democracy on the theoretical level with his eventual practical acceptance of it as the less dangerous of all existing regimes.
