Abstract

The purpose of this article is to comment and remember Manuel Altolaguirre's Garcilaso de la Vega (1933). Through this article, we will be able to understand the political, esthetical and ideological transcendence of this biography by examining the configuration of the protagonist as lover and hero. Almost forgotten by readers and critics as well, Garcilaso de la Vega combines poetry with history. Although Altolaguirre approached the investigation in a rigorous way, his recreation of the life of the poet from Toledo is guided by his very own imagination and by his personal conception of love and heroism.
