Abstract

This article offers a discussion of the mutual relationship between two 14ᵗʰ century patristic compilations, the Milleloquium veritatis Augustini and the Hieronymianus, whose authors, the Augustinian Hermit Bartholomaeus of Urbino († 1350) and the jurist Johannes Andreae († 1348), knew each other. The Milleloquium seems to have been finished some time before the end of 1342, but was not ‚published‘ before May 1343, and possibly as late as October 1344. The Hieronymianus was finished after the Milleloquium by the end of 1342, but took its definite form only 1346. In addition, the present article provides a critical edition of the Milleloquium's preface, a dedicatory letter to pope Clemens VI, and a discussion of Bartholomaeus' alleged literary models.
