Amphipods have many different types of setae with varying microstructures, including a decorated tip on the presumptive chemosensory setae. The setae show variations in microstructure that may be used for systematic and phylogenetic studies. These setal structures have been arranged into a classification to help in systematic descriptions of setal types and of their distributions on amphipods.
