Abstract

As a wastewater metering device, the Palmer-Bowlus flume has several advantages over the Parshall flume. The latter has been more widely used, however, because of the availability of head-discharge tables. Simplified procedures for determining rating curve data for Palmer-Bowlus flumes are presented. The procedures are based on utilization of standardized flume sections for trapezoidal meters and the use of flow coefficients for the general flow formula Q = $CB_{T}$($d_{u}$ - $t)^{3/2}$ for rectangular meters.
