Abstract

A simplified kinetic model to approximate the substrate utilization rate in attached biofilms is presented. The biofilm is assumed to be fully penetrable with intimate contact with the bulk solution. Data collected during batch experiments using both suspended and attached solids from static-bed denitrification columns agreed well with the proposed relationship.
