A photoelectronic monitoring and recording system designed to study foraging activities of nesting Hymenoptera is described. The system utilizes paired photocells at each nest entrance and electronic logic to record lengths of time the insect spends in and out of the nest. The system is adaptable to field or laboratory studies, with a variety of animals.
