Abstract

Moth-trapping on Sherkin Island from 1977-1997 has produced a species list of 223 'macromoths'. The list includes the following rare and locally distributed species: cloaked carpet, netted pug, sand dart, square-spot dart, southern wainscot, Barrett's marbled coronet and pinion-streaked snout. The following migrant species were recorded: the convolvulus hawkmoth, striped hawkmoth, crimson speckled, delicate, small mottled willow, bordered straw and the gem.
