Abstract

The soundness of Harry Field's conception when he organized the First International Conference on Public Opinion Research in 1946 has been well demonstrated by the development of the two Associations which grew out of this conference. While AAPOR has grown in size, and the problems with which it is concerned have changed somewhat, it has retained its original character to a surprising degree.
