Abstract

This paper examines the activities of Annie Golding within the New South Wales Public School Teachers' Association (PSTA). It argues that she worked with other female teachers to secure women's representation within the PSTA in order to more effectively pursue policies and campaigns designed to improve the training and employment opportunities of women and girls. It maintains that Golding and her female associates received limited but nevertheless significant support from many of their male colleagues in the PSTA. It suggests that an analysis of her activities within the PSTA may prompt a reconsideration of the nature and extent of feminist involvement in the labour movement in early twentieth century Australia.
