The genus Moonia of India and Ceylon, traditionally placed in the subtribe Melampodiinae, is shown to have closer affinities with Dahlia and Hidalgoa of the subtribe Coreopsidinae. Several morphologically heterogeneous taxa are excluded from Moonia, and the remaining species, M. heterophylla, is described and illustrated.
