Abstract

On the basis of correlated similarities in general morphology, non-Kranz leaf anatomy, δ13C values, and configuration of papillae on the palea apices, 6 endemic Hawaiian species are transferred from Panicum to Dichanthelium. These species, D. isachnoides, D. hillebrandianum, D. cynodon, D. koolauense, D. forbesii, and D. conjungens, comprise the subgenus Turfosa (Pilger) W. V. Brown of Dichanthelium as interpreted by the writers. Included is a key to the species and short descriptions of each with pertinent synonyms and citation of specimens examined.
