Abstract

The explanation that have been offered for patterns of taxonomic diversity are related to the historic interplay of stochastic and deterministic philosophical concepts. New sets of taxonomic data are examined. Taxonomic diversity is related to ecological diversity, and to diversity in nonorganic and social realms as well.
