Abstract

I read with interest the two recent papers by Skidmore (1981) and Senn (1981) in the Forum section of The Statistician. As the author of the paper discussed (Gandy, 1979a), I feel that I must exercise my right of reply in order to clear some misinterpretations that both authors appeared to have made. However, before dealing with specific points, perhaps some background would be appropriate.
